Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 1 Pet. 5:6
Humility is not something that comes easily or naturally to me. It is a constant struggle. I read this verse above cringing, thinking, “I don’t want to humble myself!” But then I read on, “under God’s mighty hand”. Then I thought, “I don’t like to be humbled, but I love God’s hands.” I can trust His hands.
Through them, He touches our lives, touches our hearts. He hold us when we’re upset and distraught. He holds our hand in His when we’re walking with Him, just because He loves to be with us. He uses His hands to show us so much gentleness and kindness. He allowed His hands to be pierced with nails to save us and bring us into a relationship with Him. His hands are powerful and mighty, to protect us from evil, to protect us from falling. With His hand He guides us, bringing us good in our life. With His hands He heals us physically and spiritually.
I guess I can trust His hands as I humble myself under them. I can trust Him to take my offering and bring good from it, to bring something in my life better than I ever could imagine. I can trust myself to God’s hands.
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. Matt. 14:31
Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Mark 1:41
My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. Psa. 63:8
You will fill me…with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Ps. 16:11
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. Ps. 139:9,10
"The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing." Zeph. 3:17
