God is Love. God is Holy.

‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty’…’Woe to me!’ [Isaiah] cried. ‘I am ruined!  For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”  Isa. 6:3,5

 

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

 

I was speaking to someone a while ago about God.  She was saying that she believed that God was all love, only love, and was too loving to let anyone go to hell.  She thought everyone would go to heaven.  But this is not what the Bible says.  There is more to God than just love.  He is also holy.

 

God is perfect, pure, and sinless.  He cannot tolerate imperfection or sin in His Presence.  But because He loves us more than we can imagine, He has made a way for us to come to Him, to save us, and satisfy His holiness.  He sent His only Son, Jesus, to be a sacrifice, to pay the price for our sin.  Jesus took our punishment of death so that we can be forgiven.  Then God raised Him from the dead, and now He lives.  When we accept this gift, He makes us holy like Him.  Then we can come to Him and enjoy Him.

 

However, without accepting the sacrifice God provided for us, the very remedy for the love/holiness dilemma, we are shooting ourselves in the foot.  God has provided a way, but we must choose to accept it.  Without it we are still under His condemnation.  All we need to do is accept Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins, and ask Him to come into our life and be our Lord.  Then we are His.  We can have a relationship with Him, are given new life, made holy, forgiven, accepted, and destined for heaven.

 

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.  Acts 4:12
