You received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” Rom. 8:15
Lately God has been opening my eyes to fathers and their children, and how they are like God’s relationship with us. We were at a PTA meeting where our daughter was getting an award for an art contest. There was a father in front of us with a two or three year old. You might think that the father would be annoyed by his son distracting him from the meeting, but he wasn’t. He was sitting on the bench of a lunchroom table with his son sitting on the table in front of him facing him. He held his son while the son observed everyone in the room. The son happily leaned into his dad. Then the father held him close to him, and the son held him back around his neck. The father was enjoying the feel of the son’s hair under his chin. They loved each other and were not afraid to show their affection. My Dad in heaven is like that!
At Tina’s soccer game today, there was a girl on the other team who was done playing. She ran off the field full speed ahead into this big man’s arms, probably her grandfather. He scooped her up joyfully and gave her a big hug. My Dad does that!
Tonight we were watching Hanna Montana, and Billy Ray Cyrus’ character was playing a practical joke on his tv son, who was maybe 14. Then the son would play his own practical joke back on the father. You could see the love and mutual admiration they had for each other in their friendly rivalry. The father was proud of his son, and you could tell they enjoyed each other’s company. My Dad jokes with me and enjoys my company too!
Thank You God for showing me visual, living examples of Your love for me! ♥
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you...When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned...For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior." Isa. 43:2-3
